There’s something truly special about photographing a family as they welcome a new baby, and Zion’s newborn session was filled with love, warmth, and beautiful moments. As a Bay Area photographer with a studio in downtown Martinez, I get to witness these once-in-a-lifetime memories every week, but each family and baby brings their own unique story.

Zion was just about two weeks old at his session, which is the perfect window for those dreamy, sleepy newborn poses. Scheduling a photoshoot around two weeks old allows babies to stay curled, relaxed, and cozy — ideal for capturing those timeless newborn portraits. His parents did an amazing job planning ahead by booking their photoshoot in the 2nd trimester, which guaranteed a spot on my calendar and made the whole experience stress-free once baby arrived.

​During Zion’s session, we used a variety of soft wraps, cozy textures, and neutral tones that highlighted his delicate features. All props and outfits are included with every newborn session, so parents don’t need to worry about bringing anything for their baby. That said, I always encourage families to bring a sentimental item for the shoot — like a blanket grandma knit or a meaningful heirloom. These personal touches add an emotional layer to the images and make them even more special to look back on years from now.

​Zion’s family (and GRANDMA) also joined him for a few portraits, and those connection shots are always my favorite. There’s nothing like capturing big brother’s gentle cuddles, proud parents holding their newborn, and those sweet, quiet moments as a brand-new family of four.
