There’s something truly special about photographing a family as they welcome a new baby, and Zion’s newborn session was filled with love, warmth, and beautiful moments. As a Bay Area photographer with a studio in downtown Martinez, I get to witness these once-in-a-lifetime memories every week, but each family and baby brings their own unique story. Zion was just about two weeks old at his session, which is the perfect window for those dreamy, sleepy newborn poses. Scheduling a photoshoot around two weeks old allows babies to stay curled, relaxed, and cozy — ideal for capturing those timeless newborn portraits. His parents did an amazing job planning ahead by booking their photoshoot in the 2nd trimester, which guaranteed a spot on my calendar and made the whole experience stress-free once baby arrived. If you’re expecting and thinking about newborn photos, I recommend booking your session during your 2nd trimester and planning to schedule the photoshoot around 2 weeks old. My studio in downtown Martinez is fully stocked with wraps, backdrops, bonnets, and outfits, making your session simple, comfortable, and beautifully styled. Zion’s session was a perfect reminder of why I love being a Bay Area photographer. Capturing these early days for families is an honor, and I can’t wait to watch this little one grow.

Some families start out as clients… and then, without even realizing it, they turn into your people. The Foret family is absolutely one of those for me. I’ve been photographing them since Crew — the little guy — was just 6 months old, and watching him grow into the sweet, confident boy he is today has been one of my greatest joys as a photographer. But let’s talk about big sister Corafor a minute, because our story started out just a tiny bit rocky… in the best way. At their very first session, Cora was a sweet little 2-year-old, and I was doing what I do — trying to gently help her get comfortable on mom’s lap. What I didn’t realize in that moment was that Cora was not ready for a photographer to get handsy with her right off the bat. I immediately offended her, and our friendship had a very rough start 😅 A good reminder that sometimes kids need a minute… or ten… before warming up! Fast forward to now, and Cora is one of my little besties. Watching her confidence grow, seeing her personality shine, and knowing she feels safe and comfortable in front of my camera means the world to me. Sessions with the Foret family never feel like “just” a photo session. They feel like a hangout. We catch up on life, laugh, update each other on what’s new, and somewhere in between all that — we create beautiful images that freeze time for just a moment. That’s one of my favorite parts of what I do: building relationships that grow alongside your families. Getting to document not just how your kids look, but who they are becoming. This newborn session was extra special as this beautiful family brought not only their brand-new baby, Daya, but also the grandparents to be part of the experience. Sessions like these are some of my favorites—full of love, connection, and generations coming together to celebrate a new life. Baby Daya was just 2 weeks old, which is truly the sweet spot for newborn photography. At this age, babies are still very sleepy, naturally curly, and comfortable being gently posed—allowing for those soft, peaceful images parents love. This is why I always recommend scheduling your newborn session during pregnancy, ideally while you’re in your second trimester, to ensure availability during those first couple of weeks after birth.
Including grandparents in a newborn session is such a meaningful choice. These images become priceless over time—capturing not just how tiny your baby was, but the love and pride surrounding them from the very beginning. Watching grandparents hold their grandchild for the first time (or one of the first times) is incredibly touching, and it adds so much depth and storytelling to a gallery. The neutral tones and simple styling kept the focus exactly where it should be—on baby Daya and the beautiful bond between generations. From quiet moments in dad’s arms to the entire family gathered together, every image reflects how deeply loved this little one already is. Sessions like this are a reminder that newborn photos are about more than just the baby—they’re about family, legacy, and preserving the very start of a story. I’m so honored this family trusted me to capture these moments they’ll cherish forever. There is something incredibly special about photographing multiple generations together, and the Guthrie family session was exactly that—full of connection, laughter, and love. We met in Martinez, CA at a peaceful little lake surrounded by trees and tall grasses, the perfect natural backdrop for a family that clearly enjoys being together. This session brought together the Guthrie parents, their twin daughters, both husbands, and all the kids—making it a true celebration of family. Coordinated fall tones blended beautifully with the natural setting, giving the images a timeless, relaxed feel. From grandparents smiling proudly at their growing family to sweet moments between parents and their little ones, every combination told part of their story. The kids were the stars in the best way—curious, playful, and full of personality. We kept things easy and fun, allowing them to explore while capturing genuine smiles and interactions. And of course, no family session would be complete without their lovable dog, Mammoth, who happily joined in and added even more character to the photos. Sessions like this are a reminder of how important it is to document these seasons of life. Kids grow quickly, families change, and having images that show everyone together—especially grandparents with their children and grandchildren—is something that becomes more meaningful with time.
The Guthrie family was such a joy to photograph, and I’m so honored to help preserve these memories for them here in Martinez. These are the kinds of images that will be looked back on for generations. 🤍 Turner, their adventurous big brother, and Khai, their spirited little sister, brought so much joy to the session. From climbing, cuddling, and exploring, these two made the photos come alive with their personalities. Mom looked radiant, glowing with her growing belly, while dad brought the calm, steady energy that anchored the whole family. If you love this location, check out the beach shoots I have planned for November 2nd 2025 at this same location, click here and we also get to see the beautiful California coast Photographing families on the cusp of change is always a privilege. These photos freeze time in the sweetest way—life as a family of four before they soon become five. The love, anticipation, and laughter shared during this session make it one to treasure forever.
Marin’s beauty, with its mix of ocean views and golden light, is always such a dreamy backdrop for family photos. Pair that with a family’s genuine connection, and the result is magic. This sweet family is preparing to welcome baby number three, and we celebrated this special season of life with a photoshoot in the stunning coastal hills of Marin. With the salty breeze nearby and golden light filtering through the eucalyptus trees, the location couldn’t have been more perfect for capturing their story. |
